Who can do rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty for anyone who needs it. However, it is not recommended for children or adolescents: the nose of adolescents does not mature before 15/16 years. year of life, usually later in children. In general, it is better to wait for the majority. You don’t have to rush. On the one hand, because the young person must have matured his decision and on the other hand, because there is a risk of growth retardation. We risk operating onnoses that are not yet fully developed.”

How is the operation going?

The operation is “almost always performed under general anesthesia with hospitalization. It can be performed on an outpatient basis under certain conditions: do not drive a car when leaving the hospital, do not settle down too comfortably…”.

the postoperative course?

The consequences can be quite simple, assures the cosmetic surgeon. The quality of the intervention and the presence of previous traumas (operation, accident) determine the consequences. Rhinoplasty is generally a painless operation. The blockages are removed the next day (after a few days in case of complex work on the septum), the splint protects the nose for about a week, and the wires of the nosedissolve on their own. Bruising, edema and ecchymosis can usually occur. Hematomas evacuate spontaneously. You may have difficulty breathing, taste may be impaired for a few weeks while the swelling subsides. As for social eviction, it all depends on the patient. If you don’t mind going out with braces, you can quickly get back to work. If not, wait a week for the splint to be removed. Regarding resuming sports, we are within 8 to 10 days, of course depending on the sports. We will avoid contact sports with a risk of shock for 3 weeks to a month.” Note that the splint has edema after removal which resolves in a few weeks.
  Risks ?

Rhinoplasty is not really a risky procedure in terms of immediate complications. There is, of course, as with any surgical intervention, especially in connection with anesthesia, but there is practically no risk of phlebitis or pulmonary embolism. This type of intervention does not require disaster recovery within hours. There are not many complications and infection problems are rare.”

What results to expect?

Do not expect an immediate final result, if you remove a large mass, you will see the change when you remove the bandage. However, swelling may occur that does not go away immediately or evenly. You get a good part of the results very quickly, but you still have to be patient for the final result. If the tip of the nose has been opened in an open approach with tissue stripping, the consequenceswill be longer. The operated area takes an average of 3 months to completely reduce the inflammation and the skin to adapt to the new bone and cartilage structure. It is only after 12 months that the final result can really be appreciated. During this time, a follow-up by the Surgeons and if defects appear over time, a secondary rhinoplasty or a touch-up is entirely possible.

Advantages

We can also work better on complicated noses with this technique, for example to better reshape the tip of the nose. For noses that have already been operated on or traumatized, open rhinoplasty will make it possible to do more precise and sophisticated things.”

Inconvenience

It’s true that we remove more tissue, we do more things, so the suites are a little longer. The final results will also be available later, after around 2 years for closed surgery versus around 3 years for open surgery.
